Task 1 – Understanding macros
When you have been shown how to create a macro, open a new Powerpoint presentation and create your own macro.
Task 2 – Creating a flowchart
Please get into the same groups as before when you were completing your powerpoint quiz.
You have to change your quiz so that it adds up the score and displays a total at the end. Using a whiteboard in your group, try and create a flowchart which explains what happens to the score as you progress through the presentation. You will eventually use macros to change the way your presentation works.
Task 3 – Attaching macros to buttons
Once you have been shown how to attach macros to action buttons, you need to alter your presentation so it adds up the score and displays the score at the end.
Extension
Can you add a macro so that one point is taken off the score if a question is wrong. You might want to award 2 points for each correct answer.

Starter: Open any of the powerpoint quizzes in the folder Shared:\General\ICT\Year 8\Quiz Powerpoints view them as a slide show and see how you get on. (the ice age one is good)
Your task
In the groups that you are put in, you are going to create a 5 question multiple choice quiz using powerpoint. The quiz can be about a subject of your choice – a tv programme, a band, a film, a school subject, a famous person – anything that you want. Think creatively! You could have a picture question, a video clip question, a music question as well as a normal text question.
You will need to work as a team – set up a folder in general (under Shared:\General\ICT\Year 7\Quiz Powerpoints) to share files you might need. One person might need to do some research, one might need to collect images, one might working on the presentation itself.
- There must be two choices for each question
- The two choices must be buttons which the user can click on – for help on buttons grab your headphones and watch this video, now watch this one
- There needs to be a way of indicating whether an answer is right or wrong
- There needs to be a way of moving through the quiz
- There needs to be an introduction / instruction slide
- There needs to be a concluding / thank you for taking part slide
Hints and tips
As we go through the lesson I will pass on hints and tips to members of each team which they will need to feed back to the group.

New Unit – Please create a folder called Unit 7.5 – Murder Most Horrid in your ICT folder. Now have a listen to your task below.
Task 1
So far, the police have interviewed the deputy head and headteacher. They have collected descriptions of all the teachers, and where they were at the time of the murder.
Police have had a tip off that someone with brown or black hair was seen leaving the dining hall at the time of the murder. Using the Witness Details Sheet;
- highlight all the people who have black hair
- highlight all the people who have brown hair
- Now answer the questions on the bottom of the sheet
Using the DS – see who can be first to answer the questions.
Task 2 – Creating queries in MS Access
-
Go to My Computer and then COPY the SHR Pupils 08-09 database from P:\Senior Pupils\ICT\Y07\Unit 7.5 Murder Most Horrid\Lesson_1 by right clicking and choosing copy.
-
Go to My Documents and PASTE SHR Pupils 08-09 into your Unit 7.5 – Murder Most Horrid by right clicking and choosing paste. Then open the database by double clicking and see if you can find your name…(you might have to explore and experiment)
Try to produce the following queries. Save each query as its number;
- Find all the girls in your form and sort the list by Surname (a) also show firstname
- Find all the girls in your house and sort the list by Year (a) also show firstname and surname
- Find all the girls in the school called Eleanor and sort the list by Form Group (a) and then Age (a) show all fields
